Instrumentation

Youngstown State University's XEL and XEL² laboratories maintain a wide variety of nuclear instrumentation and detectors for measurement of alpha and beta particles and gamma rays from nuclear decays. Equipment includes:

NaI(Tl), BGO, CsF and BaF₂ scintillation detectors
High-purity Ge detectors
NIM and CAMAC instrumentation

Photo-nuclear reactions may be investigated at modest energies using a number of bremsstrahlung devices, including:

Pulsed and continuous (cooled) x-ray tubes
Electron linear accelerator (linac)
