| Dr. Wendy Webb, departmental doctoral program graduate, is the first
woman superintendent of the Youngstown City School District and the
first African American to earn a doctoral degree from YSU. Her
doctoral dissertation was entitled "Urban Mothers'
Perceptions of How Power is used in Family/School Conflicts" and she received
her degree at the December 14, 2003 commencement. Dr. Webb assumed
the Youngstown City Superintendency on August 1, 2004 when superintendent
Benjamin McGee retired.
Quoting Dr. Webb:
In voicing her support of the program to bring select Youngstown
School District high school students to a high school created on
the YSU campus (i.e., Youngstown Early College High School) she
said, "Children don't all fit in one box. We're
here to offer different opportunities. It's going to work because
we're going to make it work. I don't think it's a question of whether
we should do it. We've got to do it for the sake of our community,
for the future of our community."
