MVP, Magellan Voyage Project, is about a twelve year old boy name Adam Story who receives a challenge from the ruler of Babababad to travel across the world in forty days without an adult escort and using surface transportation only. Adam accepts the challenge and ventures off to travel the world with his mother thinking he is away at camp. Adam is given GPS tracking unit so he can be located at any time, a cell phone to call the MVP headquarters if had questions, a credit card that has no spending limit, and an ATM card which allows him to withdraw three hundred dollars worth of local currency daily. Throughout his journey, he has to follow strict rules and be aware of "tracker" and "stoppers." Although I enjoyed the adventures in the book, it wasn't very believable. The characters, specifically the team leaders, had odd names and came from phony places. And how can a twelve year old boy travel across the entire world without his mother ever knowing where he was at? Although some of the characters and the plot seemed unbelievable, they were all very likeable and the excitement of the book makes you want to read on. I fel that the book was very thrilling and I would suggest this book to any 4th through 6th grader. It makes a young person believe that they can accomplish anything as long as they stick with it and never give up. It was a very enjoyable book. ~ Neal Brant, grade 6, Reed Middle School |
