Management information systems are computer-based systems that provide managers with the information they need for planning, controlling and decision making in organizations.

The Management Information Systems (MIS) program combines the use of systems analysis and design with hands-on development efforts to illustrate the application of the computer as a functional tool within an organization. MIS graduates are considered as business professionals who know how to use computers to manage information. They are able to analyze an organization’s informational needs, plan a computer-based delivery system responding to the needs, and direct the implementation and operation of the system. Knowledge of and familiarity with Information Systems can also give a competitive advantage to other functional area managers such as Human Resources, Marketing, Finance, Accounting, and Operations Management.

Information systems have dramatically changed the workplace today. As the need for information increases, the greater the recruitment for information system experts become. The study also stated that 445,000 new systems analysts positions will be added to the workforce by 2005, ranking systems analysis as the number one growth area expected in terms of new positions.
