Stephen Smyczynski
"The Steve" for the YSU Isomer Project

I started at YSU the summer of 2004 as a pre-nursing major, to enter the new two-year Associate Degree of Nursing program Cuyahoga Community College started at YSU.  While completing the prerequisite classes, I began working for Dr. Jeff Carroll as a student aide in the YSU Isomer Project, assisting him in the management of the grants that fund his nuclear isomer research.

Over the summer of 2005, I continued on in the project, providing technical support and assisting with software development.  I will be a CCC nursing student beginning the Fall of 2005 and until I graduate in 2007.  And I will continue to work for Dr. Carroll, to provide support for his work and that of the other researchers on his projects.

It’s been a great experience to be part of the large team of post-doctoral researchers, international graduate students, YSU students with several different majors, and especially international nuclear research scientists, all working on Dr. Carroll’s isomer studies.  I also really enjoy being part of the Department of Physics & Astronomy, and look forward to continue working and studying at YSU over the next two years (or more—?—YSU has an attractive Bachelor of Science in Nursing completion program!).
