This page is presented for faculty and administrators or assistants using the COMPETE Marketing Simulation in order to provide
a communications conduit and source of upgrades, fixes, corrections,
suggestions, etc. regarding the current 4th edition.
Current upgrades/fixes/mods include the following:
1) Student spreadsheet updates and corrections to Income spreadsheets. Also included are revisions of the main spreadsheet menu to permit easier use with Microsoft Windows applications such as Microsoft EXCEL and LOTUS for Windows.
2) Parameter deck modifications (greater demand, cost mods, etc.)
3) Main module code changes to fix "Math Domain Error" which occurred under certain zero-out conditions when running Market Share Model #3.
4) Miscellaneous fixes (print formatting, rounding errors, etc....)

CMPT47UP.EXE **** Version 4.7 UPGRADE **** A 1.1 Mb self-extracting program for installing/upgrading the COMPETE simulation:
This upgrade contains new PROFSUM menus that create competitive graphs viewable under both Lotus and Excel, improved UPDATE and error correction routines, and numerous other fixes and improvements.
NOTE: It is strongly recommended that you use this file to install COMPETE instead of the publisher supplied files.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR DOWNLOADING AND INSTALLING COMPETE VERSION 4.7:
(1) Download to a temporary subdirectory on the hard drive such as C:\TEMP
(2) Switch to MSDOS
(3) Put a 3.5" blank formatted disk in Drive A:
(4) Switch to drive A: so that the A:> prompt appears, (type A:
(5) Type "C:\TEMP\CMPT47UP.EXE" (w/o quotes.) This will extract the INSTALL files to the blank disk in drive A:
(6) While still at the A:> prompt in DOS, type "INSTALL C:" to create a new COMPETEA subdirectory with all the required executable files.
NOTE: This download should be used prior to the beginning of a new semester/quarter first run. For an upgrade or fix within a current
semester or quarter , use the CMPT45B.EXE and UPDAT.EXE files below or send me an email for instructions.
UPDAT.EXE A fix to an internal COMPETE program module that solves capture of new student data input file. Please download directly into
your COMPETEA subdirectory (and any other industry directories...) Use for all versions prior to Version 4.7.
CAPFIX.EXE -- 305kb ... Self-extracting upgrade and fix to the student-analysis spreadsheets found on the student data-entry disk. Download this file to your hard drive; put it in a "
capfix" subdirectory; type "CAPFIX" to uncompress the files. Then make the file available to students to copy over their original data-entry disk with the upgraded files.
TESTDRV.EXE Self-Extracting sample student data
files to use for a test run. TO USE: (1) Install COMPETE
(2) Set up COMPETE as a 5-team INDUSTRY A (3) Download this file to the C:\COMPETEA
folder, (4) Double click it to extract the files (5) Run COMPETE.
CMPT45B.EXE A 78k self-extracting archive file. Used to upgrade main runtime module and fix "domain" errors. Do NOT USE for COMPETE Versions 4.5 and above!
INSTRUCTIONS: Right click and save this file into your current COMPETE directory.
In your current COMPETE directory, rename your CMPT4.EXE to CMPT4.OLD. Then, right click on CMPT45B.EXE to extract and correct/overwrite older CMPT4.EXE module.
