TCED 6959 Law and Ethics for the
Classroom Teacher
Assignment for Legal, Ethical,
and Civic Analysis of the Film Teachers
Randy L. Hoover, Instructor
Using the film Teachers (United Artists, 1984), you are to
analyze and interpret it from the perspectives of most salient legal, ethical,
and civic education concepts, principles, and ideas taught in this course. Though the task may seem daunting, I do not expect you to use everything
taught in the entire course. The
film is a window that looks upon explicit legal, ethical, and civic education
phenomena—the events within the story told by the film.
You
may approach the assignment any way you wish. You may divide your analysis into the three domains or
you may follow the sequence of the film using the three domains where they are
appropriate as the phenomena occur.
Or, you may select the major constructs across the domains and bring
events of the film into your discussion to make your analysis and support your
arguments. Also, you may choose to
take a special approach to the film analysis such as taking one particular
strand or sub-plot and doing an in-depth analysis of it. If you choose this last approach,
please discuss it with me to make sure I think it is doable. Likewise, if you come up with an
approach that is unique, please discuss it with me first.
For
the purposes of this assignment, make
sure you approach the analysis from the view that the school is located
in the State in which you hold or are acquiring licensure. (FYI— It was
filmed in Columbus at the old Central High School.)
We
will discuss this assignment in detail during class.
